Masood Shariff
Masood Shariff is a senior advisor with extensive senior management and international experience. His expertise lies in designing investment fund models and launching new funds, with a particular focus on venture capital, mezzanine financing, and SME growth funding. These funds are often sponsored by development finance institutions and impact investors. Based in Kenya, Masood has worked on projects across East Africa, Ghana, Morocco, and Central Asia. In recent years, he has provided strategic advice on the development of early-stage finance, the launch of venture capital, mezzanine, and SME growth funds, as well as blended financing and investment readiness and post investment support models.
Over the past 15 years, Masood has advised organizations such as the Fonds Mohammed VI Pour L’Investissement (Morocco), the World Bank, FinDev Canada, the Aga Khan Development Network, Bamboo Capital (Kenya), Kampani NV, and Développement International Desjardins. Previously, he held positions as the Managing Director of Deloitte Consulting and Financial Advisory Services in East Africa and as the Executive Director of CARE Enterprise Partners and CEP Investments—a CARE Canada pilot initiative focused on impact investing in SMEs, agri-businesses, and microfinance in developing countries.
Masood’s interests extend beyond advisory work. He co-founded an indoor vertical hydroponic farm in Kenya and is passionate about climate-smart and sustainable business models. Additionally, he serves as a board-level advisor to growth-oriented businesses and early-stage companies in Kenya.
His educational background includes an MBA from the University of Chicago (Booth School of Business), participation in the Financial Institutions for Private Enterprise Development (FIPED) Executive Program at Harvard University’s Kennedy School, and completion of the Financing Fast Growth Businesses Executive Program at the London Business School.
Masood co-authored a World Bank Working Paper on Private Equity/Venture Capital and the Role of Technical Assistance for Small & Medium Enterprises.
