Climate Finace
Community of Practice

The CAFIID Climate Finance (CF) Community of Practice (CoP) is dedicated to advancing the climate finance ecosystem both in Canada and internationally. As a member-driven platform, the CoP provides an opportunity to collaborate, exchange knowledge, and share innovative solutions that address the world’s most urgent climate challenges.

What is Climate Finance?

For the purpose of the CoP, CAFIID follows the UNFCCC’s definition of climate finance: "local, national, or transnational financing—drawn from public, private, and alternative sources of financing—that seeks to support mitigation and adaptation actions that address climate change."

Why Now?

With the growing urgency of climate change, the time to act is now. According to CAFIID’s 2021 State of the Sector Report, climate finance is a rising priority, with many CAFIID members already engaged in innovative projects addressing environmental issues. Organizations like Ecotierra and Développement international Desjardins (DID) have demonstrated how climate finance can be effectively deployed to mitigate deforestation and support climate-smart agriculture in emerging markets.

Despite this progress, global climate finance still falls short of the $4.5 trillion needed annually to meet international climate goals (Global Landscape of Climate Finance 2023). Through the Climate Finance CoP, CAFIID is taking a bold step toward bridging this gap by bringing together key players in climate finance and impact investment.

Purpose of the Climate Finance CoP

The Climate Finance CoP serves as a forum for CAFIID members to:

  • Exchange knowledge on trending climate topics and best practices

  • Share related learnings and resources

  • Provide peer support and advice on specific climate finance cases

  • Create a platform for collaboration among diverse stakeholders

  • Receive training on climate finance frameworks and standards

Our focus is on practical, inclusive, and participatory engagement, empowering members to address climate challenges with actionable solutions.
