Rob Friberg
Rob Friberg is an independent consultant specializing in the design and evaluation of values-driven forest and land stewardship that empowers rural and Indigenous communities while fostering resilience to climate change.
Rob became involved with international conservation during successive CUSO placements in central Chile and the Andes Mountains. As a consultant he has continued to support projects in the Caribbean, South America, and Africa, including Canadian government, USAID, and carbon market funded initiatives. Rob worked recently on indicators focussed toward the protection of Indigenous values in Canada’s boreal forest region, and has contributed to ecosystem-based management funded through the voluntary carbon markets, including the Great Bear Rainforest (Haida Gwaii) and provincial protected areas.
Rob has a degree in forest management from the University of British Columbia, a master’s degree in environment and management from Royal Roads University, and a PhD on community resilience and collective response to environmental change. He teaches part-time in the sustainability and environmental science programs at UBC Okanagan and is a member of the Canadian Evaluation Society and American Evaluation Association.
