Practical thinking on investing for development

Kore Global - March 2024

In 2023, Kore Global was commissioned by British International Investment (BII), the UK’s Development Finance Institution, to undertake a gender portfolio evaluation to understand the outcomes and impact of their investments in companies and funds with female owners and/or leaders (i.e., those meeting the 2X Entrepreneurship and/or Leadership (E&L) criteria). The overall purpose of the evaluation was to inform and strengthen BII’s approach to gender-lens investing, as well as inform the broader impact investing ecosystem. A mixed-method theory based approach was applied to evaluate the performance of BII’s investments, including both a subsample meeting the E&L 2X criteria as well as a subsample who met other 2X criteria for comparison. A summary of the final report, which included a series of case studies was published.
